Pharmacist


The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Pharmacist.

Locations: Clarendon and St. Elizabeth

This officer supervises the preparation and issue of medication to out-patients, and domiciliary patients, seen in Secondary or Primary Care Institutions, in accordance with Pharmacy Regulations and Ministry of Health Policy

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited institution with a Diploma/Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy;
  • Registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica after completion of Internship;
  • Computer Skills;

Specific Knowledge

  • Knowledge of regulatory framework related to the practice of Pharmacy;
  • Knowledge of norms and standards related to Ministry of Health Drug Policy, eg. VEN Lists, Inventory Management Policy & Quality Assurance;
  • Knowledge of new trends and developments in Pharmacy;

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews prescription orders daily to determine:
  •       - Authenticity, appropriateness of dosage, possibility of drug interactions and               advises the supervisor/prescriber as required
          - distributes medication to patients
          - provides counselling for each patient
          - ensures that prescription is understood by patients
  • Ensures that weighing devices have been calibrated according to standard weekly, and advises/requests repairs as required;
  • Ensures that weighing, measuring and compounding are done in accordance with good manufacturing practices (sterility, attire of staff, environment);
  • Ensures that items dispensed are suitably packaged and appropriately labelled.;
  • Ensures that daily statistical records, inventory controls are maintained, designated in order to facilitate the retrieval of information.
