Assistant Dietitian (HPC/NDT 1) – Vacant
Salary range: $2,410,261 - $2,865,042) per annum and any allowance (s) attached to the post
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dietitian 2 and general direction of the clinical
dietitian this position is responsible to supervise the production, distribution and service of
meals and to educate patient and family members on therapeutic diets.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from accredited institution
- At least twelve weeks on the job orientation under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian
- Registration with Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine
- Holder of valid Food Handlers Permit
Key responsibilities
- Assisting in planning nutritionally adequate meals and snacks.
- Adjusting master menu based on availability of food items as is necessary.
- Preparing master sheet daily using data obtained from diet sheets on number of patients for meal service.
- Calculating daily food portions for meal preparation using Diet Scale.
- Requesting food items for two or more days from general storeroom.
- Receiving food items, check against food requisition and acknowledge receipt from
storeroom. - Issuing food items/ingredients daily for production.
- Maintaining inventory control of stock in day storeroom.
- Performing physical inventory of stock in day store room at the end of each day.
- Preparing daily production schedule.
- Instructing kitchen staff in the proper methods of food preparation, giving recipes where needed.
- Supervising kitchen staff in carrying out their respective duties.
- Supervising/Monitoring the production and service of patients’ meals & snacks.
- Preparing diet tickets/labels for each meal times.
- Recording meal census daily.
- Monitoring service line ensuring that standard for meal service is maintained.
- Reviewing diet board to ensure that patient special needs are met.
- Ensuring patients’, meals, snacks, tube- feeds and special nourishment are delivered to the wards on a timely basis.
- Conducting plate waste survey.
- Maintaining daily patient census.
- Monitoring tray service on assigned wards through meal rounds to determine meal acceptance and assess the need for nutrient replacement.
- Attending meetings as requested.
- Conducting performance evaluation for kitchen staff.
- Making recommendations for appointments, departmental and vacation leave, promotions and disciplinary actions.
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly work schedule for all categories of staff under supervision.
- Assisting in the preparation of staff claims for holiday payments, and allowances.
- Maintaining departmental staff attendance records.
- Assisting the Dietitian or Assistant Dietitian 2 in orientation, on the job training and in- service education programs for dietary personnel.
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly food costing.
- Maintaining records regarding equipment need and facility maintenance requirements.
- Supervising kitchen staff in the maintenance of sanitation, safety and security practices in accordance with established standards.
- Instructing staff in the use and care of equipment.
- Supervising students on work experience from secondary educational institutions.
- Performing nutrition screening using the preformed screening tool.
- Ensuring that patients or clients follow nutritional support plans and informing Dietitians of any issues.
- Completing nutritional follow up reviews of patients already known to the dietitians.
- Performing anthropometric assessment of client.
- Calculating macronutrient requirements.
- Educating patients and relatives on the fundamentals of food selection, preparation and food portioning and adoption of healthy lifestyle practices in disease prevention and control.
