The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position at the May Pen Hospital: Resident (HPC/MO 2)
Salary range: $7,885,142 - $9,372,956 per annum and any applicable allowances attached to the post.
Area: Anaesthesiology
Requirements
- BSc. in Dental Hygiene
- Experience in Social Research would be an asset
- Registered with the Dental Council.
Requirements
- Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, nutrition and postoperative instructions
- Removes deposits and stains from teeth by scaling and root planing
- Assists in the prevention and control dental caries and gum disease
- Selects and uses appropriate fluoride treatments
- Cleans and polishes of teeth and fillings
- Exposes and processes dental X-rays
- Makes impressions of patients` mouths for the construction of study casts and mouth guards
- Applies and removes periodontal packs
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Instruct patients on how to look after their teeth and mouth after operations.
- Assists with the initiation, design and implementation of research projects to guide policy and to find solutions to oral health related problems.
- Collaborates with Professional Organizations and the Dental Council in the continuous review of dental practices in Jamaica.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of National Oral Health Policy
- Knowledge of the Dental Health Services Policies and Procedures Manual
- Knowledge of equipment, instruments, materials, methods and procedures used in dentistry
- Knowledge of Infection Control Procedures
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals used in Dentistry
- Knowledge in Basic Life Support (BLS) and in Peadiatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
