The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position at the Mandeville Regional Hospital.
Position: Female Operating Theatre Attendant (HSC/HS 2) – 1 position
Salary range: $1,149,074 - $1,365,888) per annum and any allowance (s) attached to the post.
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Ward/Nurse Manager for the Operating Theatre, the incumbent will set up the sluice room and prepare cleaning solutions for washing instruments, ensure that the bathrooms are clean and tidy and sluice soiled linen in the operating theatre.
Requirements
- Completion of Primary Education;
- Completion of Any certified training in Support Services in Healthcare or passes in at least two (2) CSEC subjects, would be a definite asset;
- Completion of hospital orientation, and moving, lifting, and handling of patients training;
- Minimum of three (3) years` working experience in the hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Checking to ensure that all bins are emptied and bags replaced.
- Checking that bathrooms are neat, clean and tidy.
- Tiding and sets up the sluice room and prepare cleaning solutions for washing
instruments etc. - Checking and replenishes dispensers such as tissue, hand towels, and hand soap
dispensers. - Placing appropriate colour bags in their locations for collection of wet and dry linen.
- Placing bags in all garbage bins.
- Emptying and washing Kick buckets between cases.
- Mopping the theatre between cases in the absence of the Male Attendant, the female attendant will be asked to mop, to prevent unnecessary delay of cases.
- Sluicing all soiled linen before being placed in linen bags.
- Washing Instruments first and then soak then rinse before assortment.
- Replacing all bin bags when necessary and not waiting on any particular shift, especially in the lunchrooms.
- Assisting with packing and sorting of linen when time allows.
- Assisting with making and packing of gauze swabs and cotton when time allows.
- Cleaning and sanitizes of bathrooms, changerooms, and lunch rooms.
- Packing stocks collected from stores in the designated area.
- Refilling stocked liquid cleaning solutions once per week.
- Preparing garbage for disposal.
- Reporting to the nurse or supervisor any item or article found especially when emptying cloth bins.
- Preparing soiled lien in double or triple bags to prevent leakage.
- Reporting faulty equipment.
- Maintaining integrity while controlling the spread of infection.
Required Knowledge/Competencies
- Understanding of infection control policies and procedure – able to deal with spillages of blood and body fluid
- Knowledge of the techniques in Lifting and Handling of patients
- Knowledge of Operating Theatre procedures and precautions
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures and precautions
- Able to prioritize and work under pressure
- Good time management, judgment, and decision-making skills
- Good human relations and communication skills
Special conditions associated with the job
- Physically demanding environment, which requires the skills and ability to do heavy lifting, and safely manoeuvre patients, wheelchairs, trolleys and other equipment.
- High risk area with exposure to bodily fluids, exposure to body fluids and soiled utility, therefore protective clothing and safe work practices are compulsory.
- Strict compliance with operating theatre dress code policy, punctuality and reliability.
- Duties and assignments are on a shift basis, and the incumbent, may be required to work extended hours if the need arises.
