The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA),  a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and  operation of Public Health Services within the  Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St.  Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably  qualified persons for the following position at the Mandeville Regional Hospital.
 

Position: Male Operating Theatre Attendant (HSC/HS 2) – 1 position

Salary range: $1,149,074 - $1,365,888) per annum and any allowance (s) attached to the post.

Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Ward/Nurse  Manager for the Operating Theatre, the incumbent is responsible ensuring that the  department is cleaned as per the standard operating procedures. 

Requirements

  • Completion of Primary Education;
  • Completion of Any certified training in Support Services in Healthcare or passes in at least two (2) CSEC subjects, would be a  definite asset;
  • Completion of hospital orientation, and  moving, lifting, and handling of patients  training;
  • Minimum of three (3) years` working experience in the hospital setting. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Checking the operating theatre to ensure that all trolleys are accounted for, fitted
    with Intravenous (IV) poles.
  • Cleaning and prepares all trolleys to facilitate the day’s activities. Recovery beds must also be fitted with blankets.
  • Cleaning Operating rooms, sterile passage, recovery area, entrance foyer and preoperating area.
  • Mopping sterile passage, recovery foyer and pre-operating area twice daily and
    whenever necessary.
  • Positioning the recovery beds in sterile passage ready to receive patients from the
    operating rooms or pre-operating area.
  • Transferring patient from pre-operating table to the recovery bed at the end of each
    case.
  • Transferring ward patients from the pre-operating trolleys to the recovery bed within
    the pre-operating area.
  • Ensuring that cleaning/mopping of the theatre is done at the end of each case and at the end of the operating theatre list.
  • Cleaning/sanitizing the theatre at the end of each case and at the end of the operating
    theatre list daily.
  • Performing full scrubbing of all operating theatres rooms on Wednesdays and weekends or anytime it becomes necessary after highly contaminated and infectious cases.
  • Collecting sterile packs on clean covered trolley.
  • Collecting clean linen from the Laundry Department.
  • Transporting pack to CSSD for sterilization should the sterilizer at Operating Theatre
    malfunction.
  • Transporting all soiled linen to the Laundry promptly keeping all corridors clear.
  • Transporting medical gas cylinders as required.
  • Assisting with the preparation of garbage for disposal.

 

Required Knowledge/Competencies

  • Understanding of infection control policies and procedure – able to deal with spillages
    of blood and body fluid
  • Knowledge of the techniques in Lifting and Handling of patients
  • Knowledge of Operating Theatre procedures and precautions
  • Knowledge of health & safety procedures and precautions
  • Able to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Good time management, judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Good human relations and communication skills 

 

Special conditions associated with the job

  • Physically demanding environment, which  requires the skills and ability to do heavy lifting, and safely manoeuvre patients,  wheelchairs, trolleys and other equipment.
  • High risk area with exposure to bodily fluids, exposure to body fluids and soiled utility, therefore protective clothing and safe work  practices are compulsory.
  • Strict compliance with operating theatre dress code policy, punctuality and reliability.
  • Duties and assignments are on a shift basis, and the incumbent, may be required  to work extended hours if the need arises.
